 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Tafsir Ibn Kathir’s original name was Tafsīr al-Quran al-aẓim. It was written by Ismail ibn Kathir (1300- 1373). He was a scholar, an expert on tafsir (Quranic exegesis) and faqīh (jurisprudence) as well as a historian. He was taught by Ibn Taymiyya and Al-Dhahabi.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir is considered to be a summarised version of earlier tafsir, Tafsir Al Tabari. It is a sunni tafsir. It explains Quranic verses with Hadith and sayings of the sahaba.

His other great works are Al-Bidaya wan nihaya ("The beginning and the end"), Al-Sira Al-Nabawiyya, about the life of Muhammad and Qisas Al-Anbiya ("Stories of the Prophets").
