Ashokcharito (অশোকচরিত) is a Bengali historical book about Indian benevolent emperor Asoka. Its written by Amulya Chandra Sen (অমুল্যচন্দ্র সেন).
Asoka was an Indian Emperor. He was the third ruler of the Maurya dynasty. He was one of the most powerful Indian rulers who ruled from 268 to 232 BCE. His empire consisted most of India, Afghanistan, parts of Persia, Bengal and Assam.
At first, he was like other rulers who tried to conquer everything. Then he waged a war against the state of Kalinga (modern Odisha). He conquered Kalinga which had resulted in more than 200,000 deaths. He became overwhelmed with the brutality of his actions and it changed his heart. He then embraced Buddhism and became a kind ruler afterwards.
